When the job ends, the homeowner starts asking what paint is on that wall and who made the faucet, and they keep asking for fifteen years. Today that answer dies in your old spec sheet. The manual is where it lives instead.
What is in it
A branded cover with the project and the completion date. Then chapters by room or section. Then a product register: every item with its image, manufacturer, model, finish, size, supplier, and the link it came from.
A paint schedule pulls the paint lines out into their own list, because that is the question that gets asked most.
Your final selection boards embed as a "what we chose" chapter.
Care notes and warranties
Every item can carry care notes and a warranty link. Those are the two fields that turn a parts list into a manual.
There is an assist that drafts care notes for you from what the product is. It drafts, you review, you confirm. Nothing is written to the manual until you accept it, because "damp cloth only" on the wrong surface is worse than no note.
Generate it
Open Home manual from the project sidebar and run Generate binder. Before publishing, it shows you completeness: which items have images, which have care notes, which have warranty links, and which are bare.
Fix the gaps that matter and publish. You do not need every field on every item; you do need images on the things somebody will want to match.
Two forms of the same document
A permanent link you send the homeowner. They open it in a browser forever, on any device, with no account and no app.
A printable binder for the closeout package, as a print layout or a PDF.
Rotating the link
A project has one manual link. Rotating it replaces the existing link in place, which stops the old one resolving. Use it if the wrong person ended up with the address.
Because it is one link per project, there is no set of stale copies to chase.
No money, anywhere
Allowances, prices, cost, markup, variance, and totals do not appear in the manual in any form. The build's money is your business with the client. The manual is the home's.
The controls that let you leave chapters out remove them on the server, so a section you switch off is genuinely not in the document, not hidden in it.
