The browser clipper

A Chrome extension that saves the product page you are looking at straight into your library, using the page your own browser already loaded.

You are on a product page. One click puts it in your library, filed in a suggested folder, with the image. No copying the URL, no switching tabs.

When you paste a URL, a server has to go and fetch that page, and some retailers refuse. When you clip, the page has already been fetched by your browser: scripts ran, you were signed in if you needed to be, and nothing blocked you. The clipper sends that rendered page over, so it reads cleanly on sites that a pasted link struggles with.

It also costs nothing against your smart import allowance in the normal case, because no fetch had to happen.

Install it

Open Products and follow the Clipper link, or go to the clipper page directly. It walks four steps.

Step one, get the extension. Download the ZIP, unzip it, and load it into Chrome. Open a new tab and type chrome://extensions into the address bar, because browsers block links that go there. Turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the unzipped folder, not the ZIP file. Pin the extension so it stays in your toolbar.

Step two, get a token. Generate a clipper token on the same page. It is shown once. Copy it before you leave.

Step three, connect the extension. Open the extension's options, paste the app address and the token, save, and press Test connection.

Step four, confirm. Go back to the clipper page. It flips to connected on its own, without a reload, once the extension's test ping arrives.

The developer mode warning

Chrome shows a warning about developer mode extensions every time it starts, and can switch a hand installed extension off after a restart. That is Chrome's behaviour for anything not installed from the Web Store, not a fault in the clipper. If it goes quiet after a reboot, open chrome://extensions and switch it back on.

Tokens

One active token per account. The token is what authenticates the extension, so treat it like a password: it is not your login, but anybody holding it can write products into your library.

Rotate or revoke it any time from Settings, in the Browser clipper section. Rotating replaces the token, which disconnects any browser still using the old one.

What gets saved

The same fields as any other import, in the same preview, with the same suggested folder. Products saved this way are tagged with where they came from, and keep their source link.
